Next Generation Growers from Villa Gerbera, Plantanious and Semperflora win the Dutch Flower Awards 2026
The Dutch Flower Awards 2026 were presented on Wednesday 4 November during the RFH Trade Fair Aalsmeer. With this year’s theme, ‘Next Generation Growers’, Dutch Flower Group (DFG) put young growers in the spotlight who are shaping the future of their businesses and the floriculture sector with energy, courage and ambition.
Whether taking over a family business, playing an increasingly important role within one or building a business of their own, these Next Generation Growers demonstrate the passion and entrepreneurship that exists within the sector. Through these awards, DFG aims to recognise their achievements and give them encouragement for the future.
The awards ceremony
All nominated Next Generation Growers were celebrated during the festive awards ceremony. The jury, consisting of Jan van Dam (CEO) and Marcel Zandvliet (CMO | CSO) of Dutch Flower Group, faced a difficult decision. Each nominee demonstrated how they embrace opportunities and continue to innovate with a positive attitude and energy.
In front of a large audience, Marcel Zandvliet announced the winners. The Dutch Flower Awards were presented in three categories: Flowers, Plants and Foreign Suppliers.
In the Flowers category, the Award went to Mike Zuidgeest en Dean Zuidgeest from Villa Gerbera. In the Plants category, the Award went to Joost Jansen en Freek Jansen from Plantanious, while in the Foreign Suppliers category, the Award went to Corné Slootweg from Semperflora (South Africa).
2026 milestones and a look ahead
Ahead of the awards ceremony, Jan van Dam, CEO of Dutch Flower Group, provided an update on the key developments within DFG. For 2026, turnover is expected to reach nearly
€2.5 billion. This represents growth of almost 10%, primarily a result of Adomex and Heemskerk Flowers joining DFG.
AI, digitalisation and mechanisation are playing an increasingly important role across DFG companies. Work is also continuing on smarter supply chains, including the development of local hubs to reduce unnecessary transport and handling. Sustainability remains an important priority for DFG, with more than 80% of flower and plant volumes now FSI-compliant.
Jan van Dam also emphasised the importance of working closely with growers: “Staying close to the source and building the future together with our growers is more important than ever. We also need the next generation of entrepreneurs to make this happen. They bring fresh ideas and energy, helping our sector to continue developing.”
